Privacy Policy

This notice explains how Oleksii Zagorodnii ("Funiki", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, and shares personal information when you use the Funiki app and related services. Oleksii Zagorodnii, based in Kyiv, Ukraine, is responsible for this processing.
For privacy questions, requests, or safety concerns, email contact@funiki.app.
1. Information we collect
- Account information: account identifiers, registration and sign-in information, and any email address, username, display name, or profile photo you provide. Guest use also involves an internal account identifier. Information received from a sign-in provider depends on the method you choose.
- Mood journal information: moods, dates and times, activities, notes, photos, people or pet labels, location information, and other details you choose to record. We also process information used to provide statistics, summaries, karma points, and levels.
- Public contributions: moods and activities you choose to share through Shout Out, predefined support messages, hearts, sending times, and the identifiers needed to associate these with a mood and an account.
- Safety information: reports and their reasons, optional report notes, copies of reported content and its context, relevant account and message identifiers, blocking records, posting restrictions, and moderation decisions.
- Technical information: device and app information, usage events, diagnostic information, IP addresses and server logs, and notification tokens where applicable. This information helps operate, secure, and improve the service.
- Deletion records: an internal account identifier, request time, and cleanup status while we finish removing associated authentication records and uploaded files. Technical error logs may contain identifiers and file paths needed to resolve failed cleanup.
- Communications: feedback, support requests, and information you send when contacting us.
Information that may be sensitive
Mood records, journal entries, and photos can reveal physical or mental health information or other sensitive personal information. We process the information you choose to provide to deliver the relevant features. Please avoid including information about other people that you do not have permission to share, especially when sharing publicly. See the legal bases and public-sharing sections below.
Device permissions and location
Features you choose to use may request access to location, the camera, or photos. You can manage these permissions in your device settings. Location permission alone does not publish a mood: public sharing is a separate choice. Depending on your permissions and the feature, we may process precise location internally. The public Shout Out map uses a modified location rather than the original recorded coordinates. This does not guarantee that a person cannot be identified from the surrounding context or the information they share.
You can enable or disable notifications through the app or your device settings. Disabling a permission may limit the feature that needs it.
2. How we use information
We use information to create and manage accounts, save mood records, provide statistics and summaries, deliver optional public sharing and predefined support messages, manage points and posting limits, provide notifications, respond to support requests, and maintain the service.
We also use relevant information to investigate reports, enforce blocks and restrictions, prevent abuse and fraud, troubleshoot problems, improve features, comply with legal obligations, and establish or defend legal claims.
Authorized moderators can access reported content and the account information needed to investigate it. Reports may result in content being hidden or removed and posting being restricted. You can contact us to ask for a moderation decision to be reviewed.
3. Legal bases
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of our agreement with you for the services you request; legitimate interests in service security, abuse prevention, support, and improvement where these interests are not overridden by your rights; consent where required; and compliance with legal obligations. In limited circumstances, information may be processed to protect a person's vital interests.
Where information qualifies as health data or another special category under applicable law, an additional legal condition is required. Where we rely on explicit consent, it must be requested separately. Accepting community rules or granting a device permission is not, by itself, explicit consent to every use of sensitive information. You may withdraw consent by contacting us; this does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
For users in Canada, we obtain consent where required by applicable law and may process information without consent only where an applicable legal exception permits it.
5. Retention and deletion
We retain information only for as long as needed for the purposes described in this notice. Retention depends on the type of information, whether your account is active, deletion requests, unresolved safety reports, and applicable legal requirements.
- Account and journal data: retained to provide your account and saved history while you use the service. You can request deletion through the app's Delete account option, including when using an anonymous or guest account. You do not need to provide an email address or contact support to make this request. After you confirm, deletion starts automatically. The process removes your account and associated journal records, public contributions, uploaded photos, and authentication records from our active systems. If a technical problem prevents all steps from completing, we retain a limited cleanup record and manually complete the remaining steps within 7 days of receiving your request. You do not need to submit another request or contact support for this follow-up. Information we are legally required to retain is excluded from deletion only for the required purpose and period.
- Safety records: reports, any previously submitted comments, moderation evidence, and blocking records are kept only as long as necessary for their specific safety purpose. Account deletion also covers personal information in these records, unless retention is required by law.
- Deletion follow-up: the temporary cleanup record identifies the account and which file or authentication cleanup remains unfinished. It is removed after those steps are confirmed complete. Related diagnostic logs are retained only as needed for troubleshooting, security, and applicable legal obligations.
- Backups and recoverable storage copies: copies may remain until backup rotation or the storage provider's recovery period expires. These copies are separate from active app data and are not available through normal app use. If a backup is restored, previously requested deletions must be reapplied before the restored data returns to normal use.
The app displays confirmation when the deletion process reports that database, photo, and authentication cleanup have completed. If full completion cannot be confirmed, it displays a different message. Anonymous accounts have an internal identifier that allows us to find the correct records without asking for an email address. We cannot send email updates when no contact address is available; this does not prevent deletion or our follow-up on unfinished cleanup. Uninstalling the app by itself does not submit an account-deletion request.
Any residual information covered by this notice is retained for no more than 12 months after account termination, unless a longer period is required by law. This outer limit applies to residual copies such as backups; it does not extend the seven-day deadline for deleting account data from active systems. We delete or anonymize information sooner when it is no longer needed.
Public visibility and storage are different: the limited time a shared mood remains visible does not mean all associated records are automatically deleted at that time. We cannot erase copies that other users have independently saved.
6. Security
We use technical and organizational measures intended to protect personal information, including authenticated access to account features and restricted access to moderation records. No online service or storage system can guarantee complete security. Contact us if you believe your information or account has been compromised.
7. Children and age eligibility
We do not knowingly solicit data from or market to children under 18 years of age. By using the Services, you represent that you are at least 18 or that you are the parent or guardian of such a minor and consent to such minor dependent's use of the Services. If we learn that personal information from users less than 18 years of age has been collected, we will deactivate the account and take reasonable measures to promptly delete such data from our records. If you become aware of any data we may have collected from children under age 18, please contact contact@funiki.app.
8. Your privacy rights and choices
Depending on where you live and the applicable law, you may have rights to access and receive a copy of your information, correct it, request deletion, restrict processing, object to processing, transfer your information, or withdraw consent. You may also have rights concerning decisions based solely on automated processing that significantly affect you.
You can edit or remove mood entries using the app, manage device permissions and notifications, and initiate account deletion in the app. For other privacy requests, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity in a proportionate way before handling a request.
Users in the EEA or UK can complain to their local data protection authority. Users in Switzerland can contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner. Other users may have similar rights with their local regulator.
9. Do Not Track
The service does not currently respond to browser Do Not Track signals. This does not limit rights or opt-out requests that must be honored under applicable law. You may contact us about the privacy choices available to you.
10. California privacy rights
Where California privacy laws apply, you may have additional rights concerning access, correction, deletion, and certain uses or disclosures of personal information, and the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising applicable rights.
California Civil Code Section 1798.83 may entitle you to request information about personal information disclosed to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. California residents under 18 with registered accounts may also request removal of content they publicly posted, subject to applicable law and exceptions. Contact us with your request; do not include more personal information than is necessary.
11. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice when our practices or legal requirements change. The date above identifies the latest revision. Where required, we will provide additional notice or request consent before a material change takes effect.
